WHAT IT MEANS TO FOLLOW JESUS

I have come to understand, from my experience, that following Jesus is not an easy feat.

I wish it was, it would be an easier sale to all these people. "Follow Christ and your life will change, you will get instantly wealthy, your bad parts will turn into good parts, and you will remain forever young. Hooray!"

Unfortunately, it isn't like that. Following Christ means, first, understanding that there is goodness in this world. Before I met Christ I was convinced everyone was a liar, a thief, a manipulator or something worse off. I believed that we were all sinners, and that there was no redemption for any of us.

Following Christ means finding goodness, and choosing to follow that goodness to the very end. Men like Abraham and David, inspire me to keep going in goodness, because that is where God is.
To follow Christ means to leave badness behind, bad decisions that affect not just you, but those around you as well and taking up the goodness that can only be found in Christ Jesus.
To follow Him means to take the path less trodden on, to have the courage to say no to this world and it's ways and to say yes to the goodness and love only found by being with God.

To follow Jesus means to give up our lives, because His life is a lot more important than all of ours combined. 
And if, in His goodness, he laid down His life for us, why can't we do the same to Him as well. 

Love your neighbour as you love yourself.
